The Ballad of Susie (The Shadow Remix)

One of our foster families sent us this heartwarming story about their recent experience with Stray Hearts, so we wanted to share...

This is the Ballad of Little Susie (now Shadow):

"Susie is a miniature Husky.

She was found up off the Ski Valley road, very underweight, sick (with Gastrointestinal issues). Not surprisingly, Susie was extremely skittish.

When she was found, she was 26 pounds at intake, 31 pounds when she began to enter her foster home Shadow now weighs 36 pounds!

Emerald (Stray Heart's Foster Coordinator) was great. We texted her a number of times as Susie was so sick. Even on Easter Sunday, Emerald got right back to us.

We had to take her back to see Stray Heart's Dr. Monica twice as we worked our way through the GI issues…..couple rounds of meds, changing food, adding supplements, etc. Each time the communication was quick and clear: ‘bring her right over’.

Both Monica and Emerald were so very kind.

We also got a chance to use vouchers from Stray Heart's trainer Eva’s services. She was delightful, a wealth of information and showed up precisely when she said she would.

We wanted to share this story about Shadow because the whole experience with Stray Hearts was a fluid, pleasant one.

Whether it was working with your Foster Coordinator, Monica the veterinarian, getting our questions answered about meds and followup, or working with Eva - it was all SO easy and loving.

UPDATE: Shadow is no longer shy. She is everyone’s friend, quite the talker. And she's good on the leash (thank you, Eva!).

Bonus trivia: Shadow loves eating any hard plastic she can find!"

Stray Heart’s STAR WARS June Movie Night Fundraiser @TCA!

Thank you to EVERYONE who attended our STRAY HEARTS STAR WARS Movie Night Fundraiser on June 2 at Taos Center for the Arts!

It was a HUGE success, helping to raise $$$ money for the animals of Stray Hearts, seeing some familiar faces, making some new friends! (And thankfully no one was hurt by the lightsaber duels in the parking lot!)

ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE NIGHT - EVERY DOLLAR - WENT DIRECTLY BACK TO THE SHELTER.

A special THANK YOU to our guests, the 501st Dewback Ridge Garrison including Darth and his stormtroopers who drove across the state to help support the animals of Stray Hearts!

We couldn't have raised that money without our event sponsors: Taos Real Estate, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Taos - Jim Pitts, Edward Jones Investments - Paul Sands, Yvonne Lewis, and Taos Community Foundation!

THANKS ALSO to ALL the local businesses who donated raffle prizes to help make additional money for our furbabies in the lobby that night including: Walmart Taos, Taos Spa and Tennis Club, Clark's Pet Emporium Albuquerque, Martyr's Steakhouse, Pizanos, Byzantium Kitchen, Albertson's Taos, 5 Star Burgers and Meow Wolf Santa Fe!

But it was really the adorable, adoptable CANELA who was the STAR OF THE SHOW, as she was dubbed the BEST DOG IN THE GALAXY!

Did you miss out on STAR WARS?

Well, that’s OK. BUT DON'T MISS OUR NEXT TCA MOVIE NIGHT FUNDRAISER - FRIDAY, AUGUST 18!

Stray Hearts Monthly Adoption Sponsorships

Do you want to help boost the number of dogs and cats being adopted at Stray Hearts?

Well, Stray Hearts is always looking for local businesses, companies or individuals to help us in our pet adoption efforts ~ and trust us, we could use the support!

One way to support us is through our pet adoption sponsorship program.

The idea is simple: you (or your business) sponsors the cost of a Stray Hearts pet who is available for adoption. That pet receives a number of exclusive benefits targeted to get that pet adopted more quickly (such as a special training session, social media exposure and field trips).

And in return, you (or your company) receive the positive public exposure of being instrumental in finding a forever home for a Stray Hearts pet - plus lots of good karma.
