Make a Difference: Become a Volunteer

Caring for animals takes all kinds of people with all kinds of skills.

Do you love to walk dogs? Maybe you prefer to talk and play with cats. Are you particularly good at construction projects?

We invite you to join our family of volunteers and make a difference in the life of a stray pet. Volunteer orientation is usually held the first Sunday of every month, at 1:15 p.m.

Can children volunteer? Yes! Kids make great volunteers. For their safety, younger volunteers must be at last 12 years of age and they require adult supervision at all times. A signed parent or legal guardian liability waiver is required until they turn 18 years of age.

Ways You Can Get Involved

Dog Walkers

Stray Hearts relies on volunteer dog walkers to provide our animals with regular human contact, physical exercise, and mental stimulation. Dog walker training is available to all volunteers.

Cat Socialization

Cats require human interaction to stay healthy and adoptable. Spend time with the cats and kittens and you will be instrumental in helping them get a forever home. This is a wonderful opportunity to include children 12 years or older.

Fear Free Shelters
Rehabilitation Program

Learn how to desensitize shy/feral under-socialized dogs using the Fear Free Shelters method to help them overcome their fears and become adoptable.

Fundraising

Our fundraising events are really important to us, and we need volunteers to help us plan, with graphic design, social media, and to stuff envelopes.

Maintenance

Facility maintenance is an essential part of a healthy and safe shelter. We always need help to shovel snow from our walkways, empty the trash, recycle our cardboard, wash dishes, do laundry, paint, rake and weed, and make minor repairs.

Be a star and grant our wish for supplies that benefit the cats and dogs at the Stray Hearts Animal Shelter.
