2023 SUMMARY IMPACT: INTAKES & OUTCOMES

  • 2023: Total Stray Hearts Animals Taken In: 828

  • 2023: Total Average Stray Hearts Occupancy Rate: 121%

  • 2023: Total Stray Hearts Animals Adopted to Homes: 368

  • 2023: Total Animals Transferred to Lower Volume Shelters: 342

  • 2023: Total Animals Returned to Owners: 123

  • 2023: Total Medical or Behavioral Euthanized: 41

  • 2023: Adoption Rate: 44%

  • 2023: Transfer Rate (to lower capacity shelters): 41%

  • 2023: Return To Owner (RTO) Rate (for Lost animals): 9%

  • 2023: Euthanasia Rate: 6%

 

2023 FUNDING, OUTREACH, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & IMPACT

  • 2023: Stray Hearts continued to receive core funding support from local - and national - foundations, including The Petrie Foundation, LOR Foundation, Taos Community Foundation, the L Alexander Foundation, Petco Love, Animal Rescue Aid (ARA), Bonner Family Foundation, Bissell Pet Foundation, as well as longstanding support from individual donors, dedicated volunteer time, estate & planned gifts, as well as donor-advised funds. This funding supported general operating expenses, as well as programmatic costs such as new kennels, behavioral work, foster support.

  • 2023: Stray Hearts created several new Development, fundraising and strategic support programs including: Stray Hearts Guardians (a monthly donor program), Stray Hearts Angels (a planned giving society), a vehicle donation program (C.A.R.S. Charitable Auto Resource Services), a new blog TAILS FROM THE SHELTER, an Adoption Sponsorship program which increased adoption rates.

  • 2023: Stray Hearts developed a robust new community Events Sponsorship program, including an all-inclusive Stray Hearts TCA Movie Night Fundraiser series with corporate sponsors such as Nusenda Credit Union, Edward Jones Investments, Tractor Supply, Walmart, Angel Fire Real Estate, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, local restaurants, retailers and more, including an expanding business reach into Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

  • 2023: Stray Hearts continued to operate our Community Pet Food Bank, a boots-on-the-ground resource for Taos residents to receive free dog & cat food for their owned pets.

  • 2023: Stray Hearts continued to receive positive 501(c)3 transparency scores from trusted third party non-profit ranking sources, including Guidestar.org and Charity Navigator
