Tails from the Shelter

Oswald’s Story

I'm Oswald and I was brought to the shelter after being found alone in the cold. Stray Hearts got me into foster care as they were over capacity but they quickly came to the realization that I was losing weight at an alarmingly rapid pace and that I was unable to hold food down.

My diagnosis is complicated. I have an umbilical hernia, Megaesophagus and a Persistent Right Aortic Arch… but I also have a strong spirit and I am a FIGHTER!

I will require a life saving surgery and will always be considered a "special needs" dog.

For the rest of my life, I will need a very special human who is willing to hold me in an upright position while hand feeding and allowing for my digestion to begin. I'm getting really good at holding the spoon on my own so I can help.

We know I will need a lot of special attention, medical care and patience and want to thank you so much for helping give me a fighting chance to have a happy dog life!

Pet Highlight

Silvie

Silvie is a sweet 6-year-old mix. She is very attentive and is super aware and easy to walk on leash. She is eager to have some fun and honestly, she gets along with everyone – although, we have not done a cat scan on her yet. Come enjoy some time with her, but don't be surprised if you take her home right away!

Human Highlight

Nik

Please help us welcome our new shelter manager, Nik (aka Puppy Nik)! We are so happy to have them on board. You may recognize them from days past contributing to the shelter in various ways such as kennel staff, behavioral modification training, assisting in fundraising and working the cattery.

Please feel free to stop by and welcome them and thank them for their hard work and dedication.

Donate to Stray Hearts…and Make the Most Powerful Difference.

Donors are essential to the operation of nonprofit organizations. If you are passionate about advancing our mission of saving the lives of our four-legged friends, please consider a donation today.

Stray Hearts is experiencing unique challenges at this time: overcrowding, resources strained to capacity (and beyond), as well as a rise in medical emergencies and needs.

Our ask today is that you continue to give generously, either as a one-time gift, a monthly pledge, or a tribute gift that allows you to donate in honor of someone special. Regardless of which button you decide to click, your gift is greatly appreciated, valued, and contributes towards fulfilling the incredible and unique labor of love that Stray Hearts carries out every single day in Taos.

EVERY DOLLAR MAKES A VITAL DIFFERENCE.
